Henny is a Clinical Psychologist trained in the UK, Australia and Singapore, who is registered with the Singapore Register of Psychologists (SRP) and is a full member of the Singapore Psychological Society. She is also an SRP approved supervisor. Henny is able to conduct therapy in both English and Mandarin.

Background & Experience

Henny has experience working with children, adolescents and adults across a variety of settings including hospitals and in the private sector. Her expertise includes the treatment of children and adolescents with a broad range of presenting issues such as mood and anxiety disorders, eating disorders,  self-harm and suicidal behaviours, obsessive-compulsive disorder, psychosomatic disorders, and complex trauma. 

In her previous role as a senior psychologist at KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital (KKH; local public hospital), Henny was also part of the specialised and multidisciplinary Eating Disorder Service and helped to oversee the operations of the Adolescent Psychology Team. She has specific training and experience in treating individuals with various forms of eating disorders including anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge-eating disorder and avoidant/restrictive food intake disorder (ARFID). In addition to individual therapy, Henny has also helped to develop and/ or facilitate a variety of group therapy programs and workshops (e.g. dialectical behavioural therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, workshop for caregivers of children with eating disorders). 

Henny is passionate about increasing mental health awareness and has been invited to publish articles and deliver talks and interviews on multiple platforms to share about mental health related issues with various stakeholders. She also provides clinical supervision to psychologists-in-training, as well as qualified clinical psychologists.

Therapeutic Approaches

Henny is trained in psychometric testing as well as a variety of evidence-based therapeutic approaches including family-based treatment (FBT, Maudsley method) for eating disorders, cognitive behavioural-therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) and dialectical behavioural therapy (DBT). She also has a special interest in compassion-based therapies (e.g. compassion focused therapy (CFT), mindful self-compassion).

Henny’s intervention approach is one that is eclectic and she believes in tailoring therapy to best fit the needs of her clients by being flexible and creative in the integration of relevant psychological techniques and theories. She is committed to providing a safe space for clients in therapy to work through their difficulties collaboratively with warmth and curiosity. When engaging with children and adolescents, Henny believes in the importance of working closely with families and schools, while simultaneously empowering her clients to overcome various life challenges.

Having lived abroad in the UK and Australia whilst pursuing her education and training, together with her extensive experience working with both local and expat clients from diverse cultural backgrounds, Henny is familiar with the challenges that come with adjusting to different countries and cultures.
