Hypnotherapy

Hypnotherapy, also known as hypnosis, is a technique using a deep state of relaxation and concentration to access and modify the unconscious mind. This is the part of your brain where your thoughts, beliefs, sensations, emotions, memory and behaviours originate. By deliberately taking someone into a state of hypnosis, the mind is more open to gentle guidance from your hypnotherapist to help modify or replace the unconscious thoughts that are driving your current behavior.

The British Society of Clinical Hypnosis (BSCH) describes hypnosis as being “neither asleep nor awake”. It’s a “little like daydreaming, with a pleasant feeling of deep relaxation behind it all.” It is used to treat a plethora of conditions including stress, anxiety, phobias, insomnia, pain management and behaviour control issues (e.g addiction to smoking, losing weight). If you feel like any of these apply to you, our therapists can help determine if hypnotherapy is right for you.

It is important that clients know that no one can be hypnotized against their will and even when hypnotized a person can still reject any suggestions provided by the therapist. For hypnotherapy to be successful, clients have to have motivation to change.
