What can I expect in my first therapy session?

A typical session is about 50 mins to 1 hour. On arrival at the clinic, you will be asked to complete a short contact information form, and a form outlining our confidentiality and fee policy.

We recognize that coming to a first appointment can be anxiety provoking. Our aim is to make you feel comfortable enough to talk about what you like to help with for yourself or your child, and how you would like things to progress. In this first session, we may ask you lots of details about the problems you or your child are facing and the impact that this is having. We may ask you to fill in some standardized questionnaires.

It is important to remember that this is an opportunity for you to decide whether the therapist feels like somebody you could work with. We recognize that finding a person you feel comfortable with is really important. Our clinicians are open to discussing this.

I am concerned about my child. Are you able to offer therapy for children?

Mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders in childhood and adolescence can cause long-term problems that may affect the health and well-being of the child and young person, families, and communities. Here at Us, we have friendly and warm clinicians who are dedicated to offering a safe space and an empathetic ear to little ones. Together, they will focus on working on emotional self-regulation, developing positive coping methods, as well as boosting self-esteem, self-confidence, and other positive states and traits in children. Working alongside parents to help equip them with the skills to effectively parent their child and build strong familial bonds is central to our approach. Therapy models we use when working with children include Art Therapy, Play Therapy and CBT.

How often should I have sessions with my counsellor/psychologist??

We recommend one session per week, but it would be best to discuss this with your therapist after your first session.
