Sam Wu

Counsellor-in-Training

Sam is a counsellor-in-training currently pursuing a Postgraduate Diploma in Psychotherapy and Counselling at The School of Positive Psychology (Singapore). He has a strong interest in working with stressed working adults, including business owners and entrepreneurs, who may be navigating high levels of responsibility, pressure, uncertainty, or emotional overwhelm.

Drawing from his background in entrepreneurship and high-responsibility professional environments, Sam understands the psychological demands of leadership, decision-making, performance pressure, and identity transitions. He supports clients experiencing concerns such as stress, anxiety, burnout, negative thinking patterns, relationship challenges, self-worth, and life transitions.

Sam values a therapeutic space that is collaborative, grounded, and empowering, and believes that individuals have an inherent capacity for growth and change when supported with safety, awareness, and compassion.

He works with clients to develop psychological flexibility — the ability to relate differently to thoughts and emotions, and to make conscious, values-aligned choices even in the presence of difficulty. Sam supports clients in identifying unhelpful thinking patterns, unconscious cognitive biases, and deeply held beliefs, while also focusing on practical steps that help clients move forward.

Sam’s approach is integrative and values-oriented, with a strong foundation in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), alongside Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), and mindfulness-based interventions.

Beyond counselling, Sam has a deep interest in integrating psychology, mindfulness, and spirituality, and is committed to ongoing personal growth and reflective practice.

He is also the founder of The Water Sommelier, and is Singapore’s first Certified Water Sommelier, with a strong focus on wellness, hydration, and the mind–body connection. Sam enjoys exploring how evidence-based well-being practices can be woven into everyday life in accessible and practical ways.

In his personal time, Sam values physical fitness and an active lifestyle, and brings this holistic appreciation of mental, physical, and inner well-being into the therapeutic space with warmth, curiosity, and presence.
