Background And Experience

Eimear has spent almost two decades working with young people in education across the UK, Thailand and Singapore. Throughout her career, she has held a range of teaching, pastoral and leadership roles, including Head of Year, Head of House, Form Tutor and student wellbeing responsibilities. These experiences have given her a strong understanding of the challenges young people may face at different stages of their development, including academic pressure, relationships, identity, belonging, confidence and periods of change.

Over time, Eimear became increasingly drawn to the pastoral and relational aspects of her work, particularly the conversations that take place beyond the classroom. Supporting young people through difficult moments, working alongside families and collaborating with colleagues ultimately led her to pursue professional training in counselling.

She is currently completing a Master of Counselling at Monash University and continues to develop her experience in areas including counselling theory, ethical practice, safeguarding, risk assessment and adolescent mental health. Her professional background has also given her extensive experience working within multicultural and international communities, supporting young people and families from a wide range of cultural backgrounds.

Approach

Eimear’s approach to counselling is warm, collaborative and non-judgemental. She believes that feeling safe, heard and understood is an important foundation for meaningful therapeutic work, and places a strong emphasis on developing a trusting therapeutic relationship.

She recognises that every client brings their own experiences, strengths and challenges to counselling. As such, she aims to work flexibly, rather than assuming that one approach will suit everyone. She supports clients in developing a greater understanding of their thoughts, emotions and behaviours, identifying patterns that may be contributing to their difficulties, and exploring practical and meaningful ways of moving forward.

When working with young people in particular, Eimear aims to provide a space where they can express themselves openly and authentically, without feeling judged or pressured to have all the answers. She values working alongside clients, helping them recognise and build on their existing strengths while developing new ways of understanding and coping with challenges.

More About Eimear

Before training as a counsellor, Eimear spent many years working as a teacher and closely supporting adolescents and their families. This experience has given her an understanding of both the rewards and pressures that can come with school life, adolescence and growing up in increasingly demanding environments.Originally from Ireland, Eimear has lived and worked internationally for many years. Her experiences of living in different countries and working within diverse communities have helped her appreciate how culture, transition, identity and belonging can influence a person’s wellbeing.Sport and physical activity have also been an important part of both Eimear’s personal and professional life. She values the connection between emotional and physical wellbeing and believes that looking after ourselves can take many different forms. Most importantly, Eimear wants clients to know that counselling does not require them to arrive with everything figured out. Her role is to meet clients where they are and work alongside them to make sense of what they are experiencing.
